Karnataka Rajyotsava

Karnataka Rajyotsava is celebrated on November 1st of every year. This was the day, in 1956, when all the Kannada language-speaking regions of South India were merged to form the state of Karnataka.

The class rooms of NPS Whitefield, wore a festive look, with the virtual background of the state yellow and red, the colours of the state flag. The students brought out the significance of the colours; The yellow represents Arrishna (Turmeric) and red represents Kumkuma (Vermilion) which symbolize auspiciousness and well-being of the Karnataka state and Kannada people. The colours also symbolise forgiveness and bravery.

Students put up an array of events to celebrate the occasion. They spoke about the history of the formation of the state and the contributions of ‘Alur Venkatarao’, the arch priest of Karnataka unification. Students recited poems, sang in chorus the song of Kannada Pride- “Hacchevu Kannada Deepa “by D S Karki and performed dances typical of the state. The quiz on the state covered many aspects; it’s rich culture, literature, music, dance forms, historical monuments, picturesque spots and its flora and fauna. The celebration concluded with the state anthem; “Jai Bharata Jananiya Tanujathe” penned by Kuvempu himself, regarded as the greatest Kannada poet of the 20th century, decorated with the Jnanpith Award. All of us at the school felt proud to be a Kannadigas!
