Class 8 Assembly - Martyrs Day or Shaheed Diwas

“When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace”- Jimi Hendrix

A hush had fallen upon the nation on 30 January, 1948 when Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated soon after India gained her independence. The Government of India thereafter made it mandatory for all to observe two minutes of silence on this day in memory of this great leader. Shaheed Diwas, as it was thence called, is also a day when we remember the sacrifice of all the great leaders who also gave up their lives for the country. 23 March is also another Martyrs Day when Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru were hung in the jail at Lahore. We remember their love for the nation on this day.x

On this solemn note, the students of grade 8 geared up to present the assembly by beginning with a thought for the day followed by the news. All classes included a speech on the significance of this day to the people of our nation. The song, “Ay Mere Watan Ke Logon” evoked the patriotic spirit in the youngsters. It also made them aware of the great sacrifices made in the past by great freedom fighters. Quizzes on freedom were organised as were also power point presentations depicting the happenings on this day in our country.

Overall, students were enthusiastic to be a part of this special event and collaborated wonderfully to make it an engaging assembly.
